Wythenshawe Good Neighbours in partnership with Mint Sounds, the forum library creative space and Wythenshawe FM are tag-teaming for the Pride In Place Project to create a number of radio features and podcasts.

We’re looking for anyone interested in volunteering with us over May, June and July. We’ll be hitting the streets of Wythenshawe Town Centre and surrounding areas speaking to residents and businesses about the Pride in Place plans, and what matters to residents about where they live.

Backstory
Benchill South and Wythenshawe Central have been awarded up to £20 million over 10 years as part of the UK Government’s Pride in Place Programme. Neighbourhood Boards are being established, with Independent Community Chairs, to ensure residents, community groups, and faith congregations directly decide how funds are used.  Wythenshawe Good Neighbours has received a PiP grant to work in partnership with WFM, Forum Library Creative Space and Mint Sounds to ask the questions about how this investment should be used in their neighbourhoods

If you’re looking for some media experience and would like to learn how to make radio features and podcasts, or maybe you are experienced and looking to add projects under your belt, we’ll be out gathering audio over may and June. In July we’ll put it all together. The role is unpaid but there are perks we can tell you about later.

It’s great experience in how to talk to the public, how to edit audio and how to pick up some good quality audio

Maybe you just love talking to people, or care about the community, this is a great project to be active.

The first part of the project will be “Vox-pops” – a collection of small snippets of audio that will be aired on WFM

The second part will be a series of podcasts recorded at various locations. We want people to tell stories about where they live, what they think is important and what they’d like to see for Wythenshawe’s future/

To wrap the project up we’ll be holding a celebration of Wythenshawe with an open mic night, open to performers from the local area.

All the data we collect will be fed back to Pride In Place to help show what matters to Benchill South and Wythenshawe Central. Recording dates are below. If you’re interested, drop us a line to hello@soundsmint.co.uk.
